In this article, you’ll learn the following: |
Overview
The Insights Dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your mobile app’s performance by highlighting critical friction points like Rage taps, ANRs (Application Not Responding), and crashes. These indicators help you quickly spot areas where the user experience may be negatively affected, allowing you to take action and improve your app’s reliability.
The dashboard equips you with valuable insights into friction points that directly impact user satisfaction and app performance. By focusing on issues like frustration-driven Rage taps, performance-limiting ANRs, and crashes, you can prioritize solutions that enhance app stability and optimize the user experience.
You can also customize the dashboard to display the friction points most relevant to you, with saved settings ensuring reports are consistently presented to keep you informed and proactive in addressing potential issues.
Accessing the Dashboard for Mobile Apps
If your account is configured solely with mobile apps, the Dashboard will automatically display the report for your mobile apps. Otherwise, follow these steps to access your mobile app report:
-
From the main menu on the left, navigate to Insights > Dashboard.
-
Click on the third filter and select Mobile apps. By default, all your mobile apps are selected, and this selection cannot be changed.
-
Click on Filter. The Dashboard will now load the overview report for all your mobile apps.
- The report shows data for the last seven days by default. To adjust this, click on the Date Filter and select the desired date range.
Interpreting the Dashboard Report
The dashboard is divided into two sections:
-
Friction Analysis – Displays a report on the overall friction events that occurred on your mobile apps.
- Crash Analysis – Provides a detailed report of crash events.
Each section includes the following information:
- A scoreboard showing the percentage of sessions with a friction event.
- A graph highlighting the total and individual friction events for the selected dates.
- Segments displaying sessions with friction events for different cohorts, with the option to add multiple segments as needed.
Friction Analysis
The Friction Analysis section of the Insights Dashboard provides a visual overview of friction points affecting your mobile app's user experience. It highlights key metrics such as the percentage of sessions with friction events, including Rage taps, ANR events, and crashes, offering a clear breakdown to help you understand where users are facing difficulties and take corrective action efficiently.
Below is a detailed look at the key metrics tracked in this section:
What it shows | Significance | |
Sessions With Friction Events | % of sessions where users encountered friction (rage taps, ANRs, crashes) | High percentages indicate user frustration or performance issues. |
Sessions With Rage Taps | Instances where users rapidly tap the screen in frustration, signaling poor responsiveness or usability issues | Key indicator of user frustration, often due to unresponsive areas in the app |
Sessions With ANR Events | Percentage of sessions where the app stopped responding due to long processing times or freezes | ANR events make the app feel slow or unresponsive, affecting user experience |
Sessions With Crashes | Percentage of sessions where the app unexpectedly closed (crashed) | Crashes are highly disruptive and can lead to user churn |
Each metric in the report displays progress by comparing the current data with that of the previous time period. For example, if you're viewing a report for a week, it will show how the current week's data compares to the previous week.
A reduction in friction is highlighted in green with a downward-facing arrow, while an increase is highlighted in red with an upward-facing arrow, each showing the percentage change.
NOTE: This comparison is only available when data from the corresponding previous period is present.
Interpreting the Graph
The graph in the Friction Analysis section provides a visual breakdown of friction events over the selected period of time, making it easier to track trends and identify issues such as user frustration or performance problems. Each line on the graph represents a different friction type, allowing you to spot patterns, spikes, or drops in these events.
-
Y-Axis (Percentage of Sessions): Displays the percentage of sessions affected by friction events. Higher values indicate more sessions experiencing issues.
- X-Axis (Date Range): Displays the time period over which the data was collected, helping you observe changes in friction events over time.
Exploring Segments in Friction Analysis
The Segments by most section allows you to filter and view sessions with friction events such as Rage taps, ANRs, and crashes. Each segment reveals the top five worst performers, making it easier to identify and prioritize issues across various user groups. By default, the dashboard shows two key segments: Screens and App Versions. You can click Show more to access additional data or the View Recordings icon to watch session recordings for deeper insights.
You can also add up to 6 custom segments based on properties like Device Type, Resolution, or Operating System to further refine your analysis.
Crash Analysis
The Crash Analysis section of the Insights Dashboard provides a detailed overview of crash events affecting your mobile app's performance. It highlights key metrics such as the percentage of sessions with crashes and a breakdown of the top 3 types of crashes that were captured on your mobile app. These metrics help you identify where your app is experiencing stability issues and take corrective actions to reduce crashes.
Each crash type in the report displays progress by comparing the current data with that of the previous time period. For example, if you're viewing a report for a week, it will show how the current week's data compares to the previous week.
A reduction in the crash is highlighted in green with a downward-facing arrow, while an increase is highlighted in red with an upward-facing arrow, each showing the percentage change.
NOTE: This comparison is only available when data from the corresponding previous period is present.
Crash data is displayed by type, showing the percentage of sessions impacted by each type. You can also view session recordings for each crash type, allowing you to investigate the causes of crashes and address them more effectively.
Interpreting the Graph
The graph in the Crash Analysis section provides a visual breakdown of crash events over the selected period of time. Each line on the graph represents a different crash type, making it easier to track trends and identify stability issues.
-
Y-Axis (Percentage of Sessions): Displays the percentage of sessions affected by crashes. Higher values indicate more sessions experiencing app crashes.
- X-Axis (Date Range): Displays the time period over which the crash data was collected, allowing you to observe changes in crash events over time.
Exploring Segments in Crash Analysis
The Segments by most section allows you to filter and view sessions with specific crash types. Each segment reveals the top five worst performers, making it easier to identify and prioritize areas with the most stability issues. By default, the dashboard shows two key segments: Screens and App Versions. You can click Show more to access additional data or click the View Recordings icon to watch session recordings for deeper insights.
You can also add up to 6 custom segments based on properties like Device Type, Resolution, or Operating System to further refine your analysis and understand how crashes impact specific user groups.
