Overview
Integrating Salesforce with VWO enables you to import valuable Account, Contact, and Lead data directly from your Salesforce CRM into VWO’s Data Studio. This integration is crucial for Account-Based Marketing (ABM), as it enables you to utilize your rich Salesforce data to precisely segment visitors and deliver personalized web experiences within VWO campaigns.
To use your Salesforce data in VWO, you need to authenticate your Salesforce account, select the data objects you wish to sync, such as Accounts, Contacts, and Leads, map the relevant Salesforce fields to VWO attributes, and then initiate the data synchronization.
Prerequisites
To integrate Salesforce CRM with VWO, you must have:
- An active Salesforce account.
- Data Studio Add-on enabled in your VWO account.
- Administrator access within Salesforce to authenticate and grant access to data objects (Accounts, Contacts, and Leads).
- Salesforce integration enabled in VWO. For more information, see Enabling Salesforce Integration.
Configure the Salesforce Integration for Personalization
Follow these steps to enable the use of Salesforce data for personalization:
- Log in to your VWO account.
- From the left navigation panel, navigate to Configurations > Integrations.
- Search for the Salesforce tile and click Manage.
- On the Config tab, select the type of account you want to connect (Production or Sandbox) and authenticate your Salesforce account. For more information, refer to Configuring Salesforce Integration.
- Once the Salesforce account is connected, select the Enable use of Salesforce data for personalization checkbox, then click Save.
After enabling the use of Salesforce data for personalization, you must select the data objects to import and map your Salesforce fields to the attributes in VWO.
Field Mapping and Data Synchronization
Under the Config tab, select the data objects you want to synchronize. VWO supports importing three Salesforce data objects: Accounts, Contacts, and Leads.
You must map the appropriate Salesforce fields to VWO attributes for every object.
Here's how to map your data:
-
Click Map fields corresponding to the data object, such as Accounts.
-
The Map account fields view displays a table with VWO field names on the left and Salesforce fields on the right.
- VWO provides standard fields, such as Account Domain and Company Industry, for which Salesforce fields are typically auto-mapped.
-
Select the Salesforce field from the dropdown list that corresponds to the VWO field.
- To add custom fields for targeting or personalization, select Add more fields and map them accordingly.
- Once all necessary fields are mapped, click Save and sync.
Similarly, for Contacts and Leads, map your attributes and select the corresponding Sync Now checkboxes to start synchronizing data between Salesforce and VWO.
Note:
- Once you map and sync the data for the first time, Data Studio may take a few minutes to display the data. The total time required for complete data synchronization depends on the volume of data in the Salesforce account, which may result in a longer duration
- After you map and sync the data for the first time, it is automatically synced every 24 hours from the initial sync to fetch updated contacts or leads.
- VWO maps both Contacts (individual contact records) and Leads (lead records) into a single unified table called Contacts in Data Studio.
- Changing the field mapping (adding, removing, or modifying fields) forces a complete re-sync of all data for that object to maintain data integrity.
Once your Salesforce data is successfully imported and mapped, you can utilize its attributes to create custom segments for account-based marketing. This allows you to deliver personalized experiences specifically tailored to your target audience.
Steps to Verify Successful Salesforce Integration
To verify the integration and successful data transfer in VWO Data Studio:
- From the navigation panel on the left, navigate to Data360 > Data Studio.
-
Verify accounts and contacts data:
- Select the Accounts tab to view your synced Salesforce company data.
- Select the Contacts tab to view your synced Salesforce individual and lead data.
-
Look for the Salesforce icon in the Data Studio columns to confirm the data is correctly attributed to the source.
- Ensure the synced record count is accurate and matches the data quantity you expect to see in VWO.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Recommended Solution |
| Salesforce data is missing from Data Studio. | The initial sync failed or was not completed. | Click Sync Now to restart the data transfer process. Verify your Salesforce integration authentication is still active. |
| The Lead data is missing. | Salesforce Leads and Contacts are combined in the VWO Contacts view. | Check the Contacts tab in Data Studio. Salesforce Leads data must appear there. |
| Data fields are missing or incorrect. | Data fields were not correctly mapped during the mapping process. | Click Remap Fields for the relevant object and confirm that each desired Salesforce column is mapped correctly to a VWO attribute name. |
