Overview
Link surveys allow you to gather feedback from your users through a standalone survey. Unlike on-page surveys that appear as widgets on your website or mobile app, a link survey exists on a unique URL that you can distribute through various channels.
This feature is ideal for scenarios where you need to collect feedback outside the context of a live browsing session. For example, an e-commerce company can include a link to the survey in a post-purchase email to ask customers about their overall shopping experience. Since the survey is hosted on a dedicated page, users can complete it at their convenience without needing to visit your website.
Key Benefits
With link surveys, you can:
- Share the survey URL via email newsletters, social media, or chat apps.
- Minimize distractions to potentially increase completion rates.
- Use complex question formats, such as matrix questions, for detailed comparative feedback.
- Automatically redirect users to a specific webpage after they finish the survey.
Configure a Link Survey
Once you have created a survey and selected Link as your survey platform, follow the steps below to configure your survey.
Add and Configure Survey Questions
The first step is to design the content of your survey by adding questions, response types, and any necessary logic.

Customize the Survey Appearance
You can customize the survey’s appearance to align with your brand’s identity. The available options are similar to those for mobile app surveys, with additional image customization capabilities exclusive to link surveys.

- Scroll down to the Image customization section.
- Toggle on Show background image.
- Upload your custom background image.
Configure Survey Delivery
Define how and when your survey is delivered to respondents using advanced options. This configuration includes settings for scheduling, recurrence, and redirect links.

FAQs
-
Can I password-protect a link survey or restrict access to it?
No, currently, Pulse does not support password protection or access restriction for link surveys. To control who can respond, distribute the link only to your intended audience or use email-based segmentation outside VWO.
-
Will respondents lose their progress if they refresh the survey page?
For link surveys, respondents typically won’t lose their progress (which question they were on) if they refresh. However, any unsubmitted input (like typed text in a field that wasn’t submitted) may be lost on refresh.
-
Will link surveys continue to collect responses if the campaign is paused?
No. If the campaign is paused, the link survey will stop collecting new responses (campaign state controls whether the survey is live/paused/stopped).
-
Can I export link survey responses to external tools?
Yes, you can export responses via CSV download (available only on Pro and Enterprise plans) and via the Export API (if enabled for your plan/account).
