Before you start with the testing types, you must be aware of the following two terminologies:
Control: refers to the original version of your website where no change is made. The control is the base against which all your website test results are compared.
Variation: refers to the modified version of your website that you want to test against Control.

In general, A/B testing is the practice of comparing multiple variations of elements on your webpage at a time and pick out the best. A/B tests can be performed at different levels- you can test different colors of the CTA button, change in the headlines, or two different landing pages. Displaying such variations of your website, you can see which one attracts more interaction and conversions from your visitors.

Multivariate Testing (MVT) is a method wherein you make changes to multiple sections on a webpage and create variations for all the possible combinations that result from those changes. MVT enables you to employ all these combinations in a single test or in other words, MVT is typically a number of A/B tests performed on one page at the same time.
Compared to A/B Testing, Multivariate tests are used to find out what combination of elements works best for your audience. Here, multiple variations with different combinations of elements on a page are tested. To know more about MVT in VWO, refer to Multivariate Testing.
Split URL Testing
Split Testing is the method of testing multiple variations of your website hosted on different URLs. Your website traffic is split between the variations and conversions are tracked to decide which variation performs the best. The key difference between a Split URL test and an A/B test is that in the case of the Split URL test, the variations are hosted on different URLs.
Also, the difference between a Multivariate test and the Split URL test is that Multivariate tests are used to test smaller elements on a page, i.e., you test the small variations of the same element, instead of completely revamping your website.
