Overview
Templates in VWO Pulse provide a library of pre-designed questions tailored for specific research goals and use cases. Instead of creating surveys or concept tests from scratch, you can utilize these templates to quickly launch campaigns rooted in industry best practices.
For example, if you want to gauge user reaction to a new feature, you can use the Launch a New Feature template. This template pre-populates your survey with relevant questions, such as How important is this feature to you? or What challenges do you face with the current solution?, saving you time and ensuring you ask the right questions to get actionable insights.
Templates are categorized by goals, such as Improve Onboarding, Optimize Existing Features, or Measure User Experience, allowing you to efficiently find the right set of questions for your specific needs.

Access and Use Templates
You can access templates in VWO Pulse through two primary methods: the main Templates dashboard or directly within the campaign creation workflow.
Method 1: Via the Templates Dashboard
- Log in to your VWO account.
- From the main navigation panel on the left, go to Pulse > Templates.
-
The dashboard displays a list of categories for Surveys and Concept Tests on the left panel. For example, for surveys, the available categories are Evaluate New Feature Ideas, Improve Onboarding, Optimize Existing Features, and more.
-
To switch between Survey and Concept Test templates, select the respective tab at the top of the list.
Info: Concept test templates provide specialized questions designed for validating ideas, designs, or messaging concepts. - Select a category to view the available templates.
- Select a specific template to preview the questions it includes.
-
Review the questions displayed in the preview pane.
Note:
- Many templates contain placeholder text to help you customize the questions for your specific context. These placeholders appear as highlighted text, such as [product area] or [insert product or feature].
- These placeholders do not auto-fill. You must manually replace the placeholder text with your specific product, feature, or service name before publishing the survey.
- Templates are designed using research best practices, but tailoring the wording to your product and audience generally improves clarity and relevance to your responses.
- Click Use Template.
-
A modal appears asking where you would like to use this template. Select one of the following options:
- Website
- Mobile app
-
Link
The application redirects you to the selected platform’s campaign creation workflow with the questions pre-loaded. For more information on how to proceed, see Create the Survey and Choose the Survey Platform.
Method 2: During Campaign Creation
- From your VWO account’s homepage, go to Pulse > Surveys (or Concept Test).
- Click Create. For the next steps, see Create the Survey and Choose the Survey Platform, and then continue to step 3.
-
On the Questions tab of the campaign builder, click Use Templates.
This opens the template library where you can browse and select a template to populate your current campaign.
-
If you have already added questions to the campaign, a dialog displays two options:
- Replace existing questions: Select this option to remove all currently added questions and replace them entirely with the questions from the selected template.
-
Add to existing questions: Select this option to keep your current questions and append the template questions to the end of the list.
- Click Proceed.
The questions are added to the survey.
Modify Template Questions
Once a template is loaded into the campaign builder, you can modify it. You can:
- Edit questions: Change the question type, text, or answer options.
- Add questions: Select + Add questions manually to insert additional questions into the flow.
- Reorder/Delete: Move questions up or down to change the order, or delete specific questions that are not relevant to your current study.
Troubleshooting
Issue |
Possible Cause |
Recommended Solution |
| Template preview loads, but questions are missing. | Network interruption or incomplete UI load. | Refresh the page and reopen the template. If the issue persists, try accessing the template via the Templates dashboard instead of campaign creation. |
| Template questions do not align with my research goal. | The template selected does not match the intended category. For example, Onboarding vs Feature validation. | Switch categories and preview multiple templates before selecting one. Templates are goal-specific and optimized for different outcomes. |
| Accidentally replaced existing questions with a template. | The Replace existing questions option was selected unintentionally. | Undo is not supported. Re-add your original questions manually or clone a previous version of the campaign if available. |
| Cannot see specific templates. | You may be looking in the wrong tab (Survey vs. Concept Test). | Ensure you have selected the correct tab (Survey or Concept Test) at the top of the Templates list to see the relevant templates. |
