The questions in the Survey are added to the QUESTIONS page. The questions page appears after the TRIGGERS page of your survey setup. Here, you can add your survey questions, define the flow of questions, restrict response formats, add logic, and build the survey to suit your business needs.
When you first land on the QUESTIONS page, this is how it looks:
Add Welcome Message
Using the Add a Welcome Message option, you can add a welcome message to your survey. The welcome message is optional and displayed only if you have added the message. Without the welcome message, visitors will right away see the survey questions.
Add a Thank You Message
Using the Edit Thank You Message option, you can enter the thank you message for visitors who took part in the survey. The Thank you message is always displayed to the visitors. If you have a customized message, you can add it here to display it for your visitors after the survey. If you have not added a custom “Thank you” message, the default message- “Thank you for your response.” is displayed for the visitors. While defining a custom “Thank You” message, you can select the Ask your Visitor for Email option if you want to request the email addresses of the visitors who took the survey.
Adding Questions to the Question Bank
Surveys in VWO provide you with a comprehensive Question Bank in the form of suggested questions. To add a question to the question bank, click on the ellipses icon (⋮) present next to the question and select the option Add to Question Bank.
If you use a particular question frequently, then you can save a particular question to reuse it later. The question bank has two sections- General which displays VWO pre-defined default questions, and Custom which displays questions added by you.
Type of Questions that you can Add to your Survey
- Single Line Text Box: Select this question type if you want to display a single-line text box for the responses you want to collect.
- Multi Line Text Box: Select this type if you want to display a multiple-line text box for entering a visitor response.
- Radio Button: Select this option if you want to help visitors choose one option from many to indicate their responses.
- Checkbox: Select this option to display checkboxes for survey responses.
- Dropdown: Select this option to allow visitors to select an appropriate response using a drop-down list.
- Multi Select List: Select this option if you want to display a list of responses that visitors can select from.
- Rating (5 stars): Select this option if your survey needs to collect only ratings as feedback from the visitors.
- Net Promoter Score*: Select this option to ask if your visitors would like to recommend the product or website to their contacts. If you select the NPS option, you can customize the score labels under QUESTION OPTIONS. For example, you can change the default least score label ‘Not at all likely’ to ‘Never’ or the highest score label ‘Extremely Likely’ to ‘Absolutely’ and so on.
Add Questions to Your Survey
You can add different types of questions to your Survey to collect information from your website visitors. You can add, edit, reorder and add the next step or questions to display to the survey respondents.
Procedure
- Login to your VWO Account.
- Go to INSIGHTS > Surveys.
- On the Surveys dashboard, click CREATE to create a Survey.
- On the URL page, specify the URL where you want your Survey to appear. To know more about setting ups the URL for your Survey, refer to Creating a Survey in VWO.
- Click Next.
- On the TRIGGERS page, specify when do you want your Survey to be displayed.
- Click Next.
- On the QUESTIONS page, click the ADD QUESTION option present in the Questions panel on the right.
NOTE: By default, one question is already added to your survey. You can modify it per your requirements. - To make a question optional, select Make this question optional.
- From the Type of Question dropdown, select the type of question you want to ask.
For the Radio Button, CheckBox, Dropdown, and Multi-Select List question types, the option to Add a Choice and Add ‘Another’ Choice appears on the page. Use Add a Choice option to add more options for your visitors to choose from. By default, only two choices appear. The Add ‘Another’ Choice option is used to allow your users to specify the option that does not appear in the existing options in the form of a text.NOTE: For the Single Line Text Box, Multi-Line Text Box, and Net Promoter Score type of questions, an additional section Question Options appear on the page letting you further customize your questions. -
If you are using multiple-choice questions, you can shuffle up your answer choices each time they are displayed to the visitor by selecting the Randomize choices presented to the visitor (except ‘Other’) option.
NOTE: This option is applicable only for these question types - Radio Button, Checkbox, Dropdown, and Multi Select List. - Once you are done configuring the choices for your question, the next step is to define Flow Options.
- To define the text of your action button, expand the Flow Options, and enter the desired text in the Button Text field.
NOTE: By default, the button text is Next. - To define the control flow of questions and how they are displayed to your survey respondents, expand the Flow Options, and select an option from the Continue to the dropdown. - To add more questions, click ADD QUESTION and repeat the same procedure as mentioned in the steps above.
- Once done with adding the questions to the survey, click NEXT.
