To avoid the repetition of tasks, VWO allows you to create and save the custom segments that you can apply to other features in VWO. Assume you have created and saved a custom segment while configuring a funnel and wish to use it in other campaigns; you can easily add it from the My Segments section rather than create one from scratch.
You can apply segmentation in two different ways, but one cannot substitute for another.
- Targeting: You can create a custom segment to target a specific audience and then save that segment for later use.
- Report Segmentation: You can filter your reports by saving a set of custom segments. Report segmentation allows you to analyze the behaviors and patterns of different visitor groups on your website.
Targeting
Click the Save Segment option after creating a custom segment for your target audience. You can access saved segments in VWO under the My Segments tab.
To create and save segments:
- Select the targeting option.
- Create the segment under the Custom Segment section by adding conditions for the visitor segment you want to target.
- Click Save Segment.
You can apply the same segment for any test you want to create in VWO. However, if the segment condition does not apply to a feature you are testing, the segment is disabled.
Post-requisite
To verify if your custom segment is successfully saved, go to the My Segments section and check for the one you recently saved. To know about how to edit, clone, or delete your saved segment, jump to the next section.
Reports Segmentation
After you have completed running the test, access the Reports section to view the data collected. You can create visitor segments for whom you want to view data. On applying the segment conditions, VWO filters the reports to display only the corresponding data.
To create and save segments in the Reports section:
- Select the segmentation option for the test.
- Under the Custom Segment section, create the segment by adding conditions for the visitor segment you want to target.
- To store the target segment for later use, click Save Segment.
- Click Save in the Save Segment as pop-up.
Managing your Saved Segments in VWO
Once you have saved a custom segment in your VWO account, you have the option to edit, clone, and delete them based on your requirements. Let's have a look at how each option works.
- Editing a Saved Segment
Using the Edit function, you can modify the name and targeting conditions of your saved segment. To edit a saved segment, click on the ellipsis icon (⋮) corresponding to the one you want to modify and choose the Edit option. Alternatively, you can edit by clicking the pencil icon in the definition on the right.
NOTE: When you edit a saved segment that is being used in another campaign in your account, the pre-segment conditions for all such segments are impacted. The data for linked goals and funnels are also flushed. - Cloning a Saved Segment
If you wish to duplicate any of your existing saved segments, clone them. This is useful when creating a new segment condition identical to the one created earlier but with minor changes. Thus, you won't have to create one from scratch. To clone a saved segment, click on the ellipsis icon (⋮) corresponding to the one you want to clone and choose the Clone option. Alternatively, you can clone by clicking the clone icon in the definition on the right. - Deleting a Saved Segment
To delete a saved segment, click on the ellipsis icon (⋮) corresponding to the one you want to delete and choose the Delete option. Alternatively, you can delete it by clicking the delete icon in the definition on the right. The deleted segment no longer appears in your saved segments list.NOTE: When you delete a saved segment that is being used in another campaign in your account, it is replaced by a custom segment with identical criteria.
