Overview
If you want to create targeted experiences for specific user segments identified in Amplitude, you can follow the steps in this article to set up and enable the integration between Amplitude and VWO.
For example, you might have an Amplitude cohort of "Power Users" who have performed certain key actions in your product (like using advanced features or having high engagement metrics). Using this integration, you can import this cohort into VWO and create personalized A/B tests or targeted campaigns specifically for these power users.
Once the VWO-Amplitude integration is enabled, you’ll be directed to the Config tab, where you can configure the data flow between the two platforms.
Enabling the import of Amplitude Cohorts into VWO is a three-step process, as follows.
Step 1: Enabling VWO Amplitude Destination in Amplitude
To start with the import of Amplitude Cohorts into your VWO account, configure VWO Destination in Amplitude. This will enable the transfer of cohort data from Amplitude to VWO. You can do that by performing the following steps from your Amplitude account:
- From the Amplitude dashboard, navigate to Data > Catalog > search for VWO under Destinations and open the destination.
- Now, click on Add another destination in VWO Destination and it will look like the below image.
- In the Add destination popup, name the destination and fill the API Key.
- Next, click on Select user property, search for Device ID, and select it. Once this is done, your configuration should resemble the image below.
- Now click on the Save.
Your VWO Amplitude destination has been successfully created, as shown in the image below.
Step 2: Sync Amplitude Cohort with VWO
- To sync the Amplitude cohort with VWO, go to any cohort and click the Sync button.
- Once the Select Destination pop-up appears, click on the VWO destination.
- Now, select the destination you have created and click on Next.
- Select the frequency of the sync and click on Sync.
Step 3: Enabling Import of Amplitude Audience Into VWO
Once you’re done with connecting your Amplitude cohort with the VWO Amplitude destination, you will have to carry out the rest of the procedure in VWO to complement the inbound transfer of cohort data from Amplitude to VWO.
Under the Config tab of the Amplitude integration page, select the Enable use of Amplitude cohort for visitor targeting option and perform the following steps to add your Amplitude Cohorts into VWO:
- Click on Add Cohort.
- In the Add Amplitude Cohorts popup, enter the name of the Amplitude cohort in the search bar or directly select from the list of cohorts that are displayed.
- Click Add.
- Once done, a toast appears, confirming the addition of the Amplitude cohort.
VWO takes around 24 hours to sync the data of the Amplitude Cohorts into VWO after the addition. Post that, it does the sync every once 24 hours. However, if you require, you can manually sync the data of the cohorts at any time by clicking on the Sync all link above the list of imported cohorts. You can also sync an individual cohort list by clicking on the corresponding vertical ellipsis (⋮) > Sync.
How to get VWO Amplitude API Key?
Once you enable the Enable use of Amplitude cohort for visitor targeting option, an API field will be available on the Config tab of VWO. This API Key will be needed when adding the destination in Amplitude.
Targeting a Campaign Using Amplitude Cohorts
Once you have imported the cohorts from your Amplitude account into VWO, you can put them to use in your campaigns to target the visitors who qualify the conditions specified in your Amplitude Cohorts.
To do this, perform the following steps:
- Log in to your VWO account.
- Using the Testing section, create a test campaign.
- In the URL(s) page, expand the More Options section and select the Enable campaign for a specific visitor group option.
- Go to the Custom segment and create a segment using the Amplitude Audience List condition. You can use this to fetch the cohorts that you have synced in VWO from your Amplitude account.
Here's an example of how you can put it to use. - To add multiple conditions, click Add condition. Also, you can define the logical relationship between the different conditions using the and/or operators and use brackets to organize the segment condition.
- Once done, click Save Amplitude.
